Suggestion
Consider placing the parking lane up against curb, then bike lane, then buffer, then travel lane, as it is on Congress St west of Grande. Seems like the greatest potential for significant injury is between moving cars and either peds or bikes. The buffer area provides that cushion or space between moving cars and either bikes or peds.

Suggestion
Consider restriping this area to allow bikes to stay in the curb lane and make a right turn onto Ajo rather than ride up onto the sidewalk walk area, then moving into the WB bike lane.

Suggestion
Consider adding green skip stripes.

Suggestion
Consider using this design or similar on the SW and SE corners of La Cholla and 22nd.

Suggestion
Consider raised curbs and medians such as with a protected intersection, to prevent NB vehicles from turning right (EB) into the bike lane. The corner radius is very large - consider making this a tighter radius for vehicles.

Suggestion
Consider a raised curb and median to prevent EB vehicles from turning right SB into the bike lane.

Suggestion
Consider moving the bicycle lane to edge of pavement and widen the bike lanes and buffers, rather than keeping the bike lane closer to vehicle lanes.

Suggestion
Suggest moving the buffered bike lane from the middle of La Cholla to the edge of pavement and to the right of the right-turn lane (similar to the location of the bike lane approaching the 36th street intersection from the north). This reduces the length of the conflict zone between bikes and cars and moves it away from the 36th street intersection which has other distractions. Where the bike lane crosses the driveway can be striped with dashed green lines to further highlight this area. Alternatively, the bike lane could be moved off the roadway altogether in this zone, separated from the roadway with curbing and landscape strip, but with a protected intersection at the driveway or other enhanced crossing features.

Suggestion
The SB right-turning traffic on La Cholla cutting across the bike lane is problematic, as is the placement of the bike lane in between faster moving through traffic on the left and right-turning traffic on the right. Consider redesigning this area to keep bikes on the right side of La Cholla as they approach the 36th Street intersection from the north and move through the intersection heading south. At the school driveway, provide a more visible and controlled crossing with green markings. Consider adding pavement, if needed, or even providing a separated bike path through this area adjacent to the school to get bikes off the street where cars are distracted by turning into and out of the school.

Suggestion
Locate the green markings between tire tracks as much as possible, so that they are not obliterated.

See comment to the right regarding widening the buffer areas and bike lanes.

Suggestion
I suggest widening the buffer areas and bike lanes on La Cholla, west of the 36th St intersection. The plan shows a striped-out area of "wasted" pavement on the west side of La Cholla approaching 36th. This valuable pavement should be repurposed to provide a wider buffer area between cars and bikes, and wider bike lanes, if space allows. This could involve re-aligning the centerline of La Cholla in order to provide additional buffer/bike lane widths on the north side of La Cholla.

Question
Tucson is in need of many projects to be completed. However, the real need comes in the southwest side. Since having the concerts at the casino, the congestion of the traffic down Valencia Irvington, or Ajo has become insufferable not only during the daytime but also at night. Not only has a casino cost more traffic, furthermore, all of the house developments that have been approved. Will only make everything worse. How is the city planning to manage this??

Suggestion
After decades of neglect, my only hope and wish would be to realize upgrades, improvements and real investments for my 36th street community. For too long the only improvements seem to be reserved for only the more affluent areas. Let's see anything, something, happen. Let's get the ball rolling.

Stop using my registration money on the GD kids bikes. We adults pay for these roads for our cars

Question
The route is a fantastic idea, but could you please consider not using the white plastic vertical guards that line the streets on the west side along Starr Pass Blvd? Many of the area residents have commented to each other in casual settings that they have not seen these guards widely used in more affluent areas of Tucson, which has made west side neighbors feel discouraged-- they are also unsure about who to contact for maintenance/ repairs. Almost all of the reflective guards along the Starr Pass route have been damaged for over 2 years, never replaced or modified, and what started as an area improvement project has left the area looking unkempt and uncared for, which is unfortunate in an underrepresented part of the City and also a beautiful desert corridor. Would you please also consider prioritizing protected bike lanes and sidewalk improvements along Greesewood Road leading up to Pima College West Campus at Anklam Road-- including west Broadway Blvd? Students and elderly residents in the area ride bikes and walk along the roads with little to no safe bike lanes, sidewalks, or lighting. Thanks for your consideration!
