Suggestion
St Mary's is and will likely continue to be the primary corridor to the West side of I-10 (Speedway and Congress are seldom used with the lack of connecting routes, and Cushing has no easily accessible loop connector) especially with the cycling improvement projects being implemented with the downtown links project and the El Paso & SW Greenway, widening the bike lanes is a bare minimum for safety as more cyclists travelling East/West are going to use this crossing of the Santa Cruz.
With regular East/West traffic (considering the completion of the downtown links project) in addition to the flow on and off the interstate, I understand that the narrow nature of the bridge would not allow for much in the way of a road diet, so ensuring bicycles are able to at a minimum cross over the Santa Cruz with a wider bike lane would be ideal. Currently between the existing shoulder line and the debris, the ridable area is only about 1-2 feet where ideally there would be 5-6 feet of space to allow for debris and breathing room from the fast traffic.
